Father Peter Farrington
Father Peter Farrington is a priest of the Coptic Orthodox Church with a longstanding interest in the history, theology and spiritual tradition of Christianity. He serves the community of St Mary and St Cyril Coptic Orthodox Church in Liverpool, where his ministry includes preaching, teaching, pastoral care and helping others to discover the riches of the Orthodox Christian tradition.
He holds two Master’s degrees in Theology and has pursued a particular interest in the history and theology of the early Church, the writings of the Fathers, and the development of the different Christian traditions of the East. His studies have especially focused on the Oriental Orthodox tradition and the complex history of relations between the Christian communities which emerged from the theological controversies of the fifth and sixth centuries. He is also preparing for further doctoral research in this field.
Alongside his academic interests, Father Peter has written and taught extensively for ordinary Christians seeking to understand their faith more deeply. His work reflects a desire to make the history and spirituality of the early Church accessible without losing their depth. He has a particular interest in the ancient Christian heritage of Britain and Ireland and in recovering awareness of the saints, monasteries and holy places which shaped Christianity in these islands.
